CDK Goes Multistack: Aggregate Everything, Starting with OP Stack

Polygon Labs is transforming its Chain Development Kit (CDK) into a multistack toolkit, starting with support for the OP Stack. This move aims to accelerate Web3 unification by allowing developers to build high-performance chains across multiple technologies - all with seamless access to liquidity via the Agglayer.

Key Ideas

  1. New Multistack Architecture: The new OP Stack-compatible CDK (called cdk-opgeth) allows developers to build efficient chains with up to ~4,700+ TPS, leveraging Ethereum’s Geth and ZK proofs for performance and security.

  2. Zero Agglayer Fees: Chains built with CDK OP Stack can natively connect to Agglayer without any “rent,” preserving builder sovereignty and promoting adoption.

  3. Developer Enablement and Roadmap: This is just the start—Polygon plans to integrate more stacks (like Arbitrum Orbit and ABC Stack), giving developers expansive flexibility for building interoperable, low-friction Layer 2 networks.
